Alamogordo’s New Chief of Police
Alamogordo, NM  Thursday, February 13, 2020 The City of Alamogordo is pleased to announce the hiring of a new Chief of Police, Richard Denton.  Denton accepted the offer to be the City of Alamogordo’s new Police Chief and assumed the role on Monday, February 10, 2020. Denton was born and raised in Alamogordo, and graduated from Alamogordo High School.  He began his career in law enforcement in July of 2000 right here in Alamogordo.  He has served in many different capacities within the department such as Field Training Officer, Sergeant, Professional Standards Sergeant, Internal Affairs  Investigator, Lieutenant, Voice Stress Analysis Examiner, SRT Commander, and Captain. Denton stated “I was very humbled to even be considered for the position much less be selected after a nationwide search.  The excitement is overwhelming because I have become the Chief of the department I have worked for my entire career.  I grew up in this great city and I am so proud to have given over 19 years of service to the  community and I will continue to serve for a while longer.”   Some of Denton’s goals include having the Mobile Crisis Response Team up and running successfully by the end of the year, recruiting more officers in order to better serve the community, and much more. “Chief Denton and I have both worked for the City of Alamogordo for around 20 years, said City Manager Brian Cesar, so we have seen and learned a lot as the City has grown and changed.  I look forward to working together in this new capacity, ensuring that Alamogordo is a safe and remarkable place to live.” “I’m looking forward to carrying on the trust we have built with the community, continue to build relationships in the community and strengthen that bond,” said Chief Denton.  The Chief has a great love for the City of  Alamogordo.  He has been married for 7 years, has three children and 4 grandchildren. He loves working with wood, fishing, and riding a 4 wheeler in the mountains.  Alamogordo Police Department staff and City leadership are excited to welcome him into this new role and look forward to continuing to move our community forward  together.
